International PhD Students

Many foreign students would like to do a doctorate in a country other than their own and to do so they are looking for the most internationally renowned laboratories. It is well known that the value of a PhD degree is modulated by the recognition of the laboratory and the host team. In recent years, the number of foreign doctoral students has increased considerably at the LIRMM to reach half of all doctoral students.

The laboratory is attractive for students wishing to do their doctorate but it is also attractive for foreign researchers who find it particularly interesting to come and spend a more or less long period in the laboratory. In general, these are foreign researchers who are hosted in a LIRMM team for a period ranging from a few weeks to several months or even a year. These researchers work in collaboration with the host team and benefit from the expertise and structure of the LIRMM.

European Projects

Since the establishment of the laboratory, LIRMM researchers have developed partnerships with many academic laboratories and many companies internationally.

International Partnerships

Joint Robotics Laboratory JRL

CNRS-AIST Joint Robotics Laboratory (JRL), UMI3218/RL is a joint laboratory established between a French public organization CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and AIST and located at Intelligent Systems Research Institute of the AIST at Tsukuba .

The researchers from both countries are closely collaborating to pursue the means of increasing robot's functional autonomy, using a humanoid robot as a main platform. The main research subjects include: task and motion planning and control, reactive behavior control, and human-robot cooperation through multimodal interface integrating brain-computer interface (BCI), vision and haptics. We are actively conducting collaborative research with external research institutes within Japanese and European projects

French-Italian research LAboratory on hardware-software Integrated Systems (LAFISI)

The main objective of the LIA « LAFISI » is to promote the French-Italian collaboration in the field of hardware-software integrated systems, by developing novel approaches for built-in self-test and design-for-test, test pattern generation and fault simulation, performance verification, diagnosis, fault tolerance and improvement of system reliability.
